Hello, my friends. 2023, as well as a whole decade of this site’s existence, has officially come to a close. I’ve got plenty of things in store for 2024 but allow me to share a particular thought before I delve into what I’ve got planned for the first half of this calendar year.
2023 marked the official end for the entertainment series known as the DC Extended Universe. Over its decade-plus existence, it’s gone through a tumultuous series of events that started with Zack Snyder as its main over-looker of events before developmental chaos and an outside tragedy led to him stepping down, while the series refocused itself on standalone stories before a merger between WarnerMedia & Discovery, Inc., along with James Gunn and Peter Safran being hired as their new overseeing masters of a brand new DC Universe series, led to the DCEU being brought to an end. While I will continue to review every single DC Extended Universe comic book tie-in, I’ll also look to take a page from my ranking list of Fox’s X-Men Film Series and countdown my personal favorite DCEU movies (which may or may not include the first season of Peacemaker). Just like the prior ranking list, I’m not sure when I’ll be able to post it, though I’ll try to aim for some time within 2024 and especially before that year ends. With all of that out of the way, allow me to reveal the various bits of comic book-related media that I’ll be covering for the first six months.
January sees me returning to a direct-to-home video series, as well as a famous franchise, as a devious group of mercenaries is making its own return to form. As for the only thing that stands in their way, a certain blind swordsman will have to come into his own and bring some unique skills with him along the way. Ed Boon & John Tobias’ creation will get the featured spotlight once again with a project called “Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind”.
February will have the return of another familiar franchise, since it’ll find itself back in the celebratory saddle. Despite having finally created the song that’s saved all of reality on the big screen, we’ll actually be heading back in time as our bodacious duo will see themselves heading back to Hell after having already escaped from it. This time, they’ll be forced into a different kind of performance in order to save their band and their souls. In order to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Chris Matheson & Ed Solomon’s creation, we’ll be dipping into a four-part venture known as “Bill & Ted Roll The Dice”.
March brings a lot of green to the masses during the month and I’ll be doing my part by continuing my reviewing venture upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tie-in comics. Despite not initially getting any official material back when it came out, it’ll still be time for The Incredible Hulk to shine on my stage as I look at its adaptation within the first two issues of “Thor: Ragnarok Prelude”.
April returns us to the realm of animated movies as the Dark Knight has accidentally unleashed an ancient evil upon his city. As if the Roaring ’20s didn’t have enough things going on, Bruce will be forced to clean up his own mess. Another Elseworlds tale will get the adaptation treatment as another of Mike Mignola’s narratives comes under my critical light. As such, I’ll be delivering my thoughts upon “Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham”.
May brings us back to the TomorrowVerse as our familiar trinity of heroes will find themselves swiped away from their own planet and be forced to fight to the death within a series of gladiatorial contests. As they look to strive and survive, I’ll be seeing how their venture held within my critical ring as I check out “Justice League: Warworld”.
June shall close out the first half of 2024 as I celebrate the 10th Anniversary of a familiar hitman’s first cinematic outing. At the same time that the spinoff movie “Ballerina” dances its way onto the big screen, I’ll be heading back to when Chapter 2 was out since a five-part prequel tale will delve into how Baba Yaga himself became forged into the skilled assassin we’ve come to know through a harrowing vendetta. As such, come join me as I look at the pages of “John Wick: The Book Of Rules”.
As always, this list is subject to change. As I begin my trek upon the site’s second decade of existence, may we all continue to strive and survive for a better tomorrow. Until then, I’ll see you all around the C-Cubed!
